Issue Position: Reducing The Burden Of Business Regulation

We constantly hear that businesses feel that Connecticut overburdens them. One reason is that Connecticut has so many rules and regulations that small businesses just don't have the time or expertise to understand. I drafted a bi-partisan bill to reduce the effect penalties for businesses that run afoul of State regulations under certain circumstances. Under my bill, when businesses are fined for breaking rules they can have the fines abated if they remedy the problem within 30 days, don't repeat it, and pay for any damage that was done through the misconduct. This provision would only apply if no one was hurt, and certain rules for worker safety could be exempted. But in this way we could save small businesses tens of thousands of dollars and let them know that the State is willing to work with them and help them succeed here.
